Money, Money, Money...

I'm not going to lie, FIDM is expensive! Tuition alone is about $23,000, add Room & Board to the mix and you're looking at about 40 something thousand a year... maybe more.

This year, after filling out my FAFSA (fafsa.ed.gov), I got my financial aid letter and I was still about $9,723 short. That is ridiculous. Where am I going to find that kind of money? I spoke with my admissions advisor and she offered an alternative of either taking out a PLUS (parent loan) or a private loan (https://www.fastproducts.org/alt/fidm). I really didn't want to take out ANOTHER loan so I was torn between going to FIDM or moving back home...

Fortunately, it turns out I had some Cal Grants that rolled over and just like that, it covered the rest of my shortcomings. Thank God! Right now I am working part time to pay for housing...

School is expensive, but if this is something you want, you will do what you need to do. It'll be hard now, but it's worth it in the long run. There are options out there, don't ever let MONEY be the factor that stop you from going to college and following your dreams. Make it work!

If you are a prospective student and you don't know anything about financial aid, don't be afraid to ask. Call or email your admissions advisor. They are ALWAYS there and they are willing to help answer any questions. Or leave us a question/comment, We've experienced it, we'll share what we can. ;)

Hi! :)
I'll be attending FIDM starting July of 2010, and I'm really not sure how to approach scholarships and grants, as for scholarships, how will I know real from fake, and for grants, what's the major difference between them? Oh, and my FAFSA, what is that? my parents tried explaining it, but I don't get the genuine concept of it. I'd love your help and insight into this. Thank you!!!! :)

There are many scholarships out there but it may take some researching. I worked closely with both my high school counselor and my admissions advisor from FIDM when I was looking into money for school. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid - that means you can apply for financial assistance and based on your parent's income, eligibility, need-based, or academic achievement, a financial aid packet will be put together for you [for a designated school]. This includes GRANTS (money given to you and you don't have to pay back) and LOANS (money you will have to pay back after you graduate). I strongly suggest you talk with your admissions advisor for further details about financing your education. They can give you some websites for legit scholarships to apply for and possibly the phone # to the Grants Commissions office to see if you qualify for any specific California grants. I really hopes this helps. Good luck to you, Marissa. Stay in touch and if there's anything else you need to ask, free free to send us a comment/message/email. -thefidmlife

Cal Grants are usually given to students with certain qualifications... i.e. High marks/good standing GPA and Financial Need. But you MUST be a California resident. These grants aren't given to students from out-of-state or international students. Speak to a financial advisor for more detailed info. I know when I was a student, I received about $7,000 in Cal Grants.

I do trust all of the concepts you have
offered to your post. They are really convincing and can certainly work.
Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for beginners.
May just you please extend them a bit from subsequent time?
