We are sending a city wide cry for help! CDG 2010

Last night, I had the opportunity to work at the Costume Designers Guild Awards held at the Beverly Hilton. The CDG is an annual event that honors the costume designers for television and film and this year it was sponsored by Swaroski and Lacoste. I rushed there right after FIDM and had to do a quick-change in the car (in the LA traffic)! When I got there, it was non-stop madness. I assisted the producer the whole night--running around after her, getting passes, calling reps, confirming presenters, trying to get the final script to print, carrying multiple phones and walkie-talkies, escorting celebrities, setting up the green room, getting press ready... and on and on and on--this producer was everywhere, she worked so hard, she was like superwoman! She made this show happen and I can't imagine being in her shoes (but I was surely running after them). There were some moment of panic though -- like when we couldn't find Nicole Kidman. But after all the craziness backstage, the show ran smoothly. Spotted plenty of other A-listers...like Emily Blunt, Anna Paguin, Jayma Mays, Alan Cumming, Kristen Bell, Anna Kendrick, Roma Maffia, and Jessalyn Gilsig. I also got to meet the brilliant costume designer and FIDM Alumna, Mona May! Overall, it was a beautiful night and a magical event honoring some of the most talented and creative minds in the industry. Kudos to jLine Group!

spotlight fashion: GAGA

about a year ago when i spotted lady gaga in an inspired thierry mugler origami ensemble, she immediately became my latest fashion muse. i was obsessed with her style. today... that admiration has not stopped but fumigated into a higher level of odd fascination and infectious lure than ever before. she's completely out of this world (literally, in her armani prive at the 2010 grammys) and it's the kind of fashion the world's been waiting (or not ready) to see. i bow.

WEEKEND AGENDA...

Dine…at Liberty Grill on Flower Street… this new renovated restaurant is my little getaway after school; it’s the perfect road side dining not too far from the heart of downtown LA. See … “This is It”… Heard this is a great movie. The new Regal Cinema down at LA Live had a huge grand opening to the premiere of this movie. It’s about time I go see it. I grew up listening and dancing to Michael Jackson and I have to say that I still can’t believe he’s gone. What a legend. Listen… “Cowboy Casanova”… my roommate was jamming to this new tune by Carrie Underwood the other day and it was just so catchy. I wanted to jump in and sing along but I didn’t know the words. My favorite part would have to be, “you better run for your life”.
Looking forward to… Janet Jackson’s Number Ones…this album will feature all her greatest hits including Scream, the duet with her brother Michael, and new song Make Me. I’m also looking forward to November 14th when JIMMY CHOO arrives at H&M.
Not excited about… studying and cramming for MIDTERMS next week. School felt like is JUST started and I’m already stressed out. Next week will be HELL. Oh this FIDM Life...

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

One of the ironies of Michael Jackson’s death at 50 is that he had been back on the radar for so many people lately, fashion watchers included. Just yesterday there was the news that the King of Pop would be outfitting himself in hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals at his upcoming sold-out London concerts. There were the paparazzi pictures of him in Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy creations. And, of course, there were Christophe Decarnin’s much-photographed spangled band-leader jackets for Balmain, inevitably reminiscent of the one Jackson wore on his Grammys victory lap for Thriller. In fact, the star’s long career was almost as full of influential fashion moments—the white socks and black loafers, the red leather motorcycle jacket, the infamous single sparkly glove—as it was chart-topping hits.

—Nicole Phelps (Style.com)

Rest In Peace, Michael Jackson. You will be greatly missed.
